This restaurant was superb! We called up late, roughly 40 minutes prior to kitchen closing time in order to clarify that if we were to arrive, we would be seated and served without a reservation. We were politely told that this was absolutely fine, and the man took our name to reserve a table for us. Upon arrival we were happily greeted and seated by the Owner and his waitstaff. Although the restaurant was almost full with prior reservations, we were impressed by the flexibility of the venue to accommodate us at such late notice. Throughout the night, the knowledge of the menu by the waitstaff, professional service and delivery of waitstaff and exquisite food, was a wonderful way to spend a date night with my partner. Having had a horrible experience at another restaurant that night prior to arriving at Mezzalira (which is what lead to our late arrival in the first place), it was a great way to top off our weekend away. My partner claimed it was the best pasta he had ever had in his life, and he has travelled extensively through America and Italy itself. I advise anyone looking to travel to Canberra and wanting to have an Italian fine dining experience, to enjoy the delights of Mezzalira.
$350 for a "special" meal with my family. The food was uninspiring. The oysters had some crap on them that got in the way of their averageness. The risotto was boring and banal. To be offered bread before seeing the menu and to then have to pay for it was a little cheeky. The service was tepid. I am sorry but for that price I really do expect very good food and very nice service. That was our last visit, though with only 3 in the last 5 years I guess I am not a regular. We now call it Mega-Loser It needs to close and start again.
We went the Mezzalira tonight expecting a lovely night out. Instead, we were met by a rude owner, poor service, overpriced food and wine, small meals (I thought they went out of fashion 10yrs ago), incorrect billing (and a near arguement when it was pointed out), hard selling and nearly 2 hours to feed 7 of us. I was very disappointed and will not be going back. There are much better restaurants in Canberra: both fine dining and Italian.
Grossly overpriced for the quality and service provided. I went there to celebrate a special occasion and left very disappointed. The waiters were very pushy trying to push little extras that were not on the menu at not so little prices with Italian accents so Italian I began to question their authenticity.
Surprised to see so many polarising reviews for this place. We had a wonderful experience and the four of us had wide variety of dishes, entres and mains were all delicious, good portions and great quality. The deserts were to die for. Four stars only because it was a little pricey but it was well worth it.
I wouldnt even give this place one star. Worst service, and the owner is a terrible person who treats his young workers like dirt. The owner and his brother rip people off all the time by charging them extra without their knowledge.
Food quality was very high. Staff were helpful, when asked. Waitstaff offer "foccaccia and olives" for which they charge $8 each (not shown on menu).
Excellent food and interesting variety of wines. We were well attended at table. A restaurant to choose for a special meal.
Expensive for nothing. pasta was oily. very disappointed. not worth it at all.
Toasted Italian roll and a long black while reading the paper at da Rosarios
Perfect Italian food, superb service, fairly expensive as a result.
The wood fired bread and the tortellini di zucca is to die for.
Top quality Italian food. Nice space. Good service.
Decent food but small servings and high prices
Great food for the price!! Must eat!
Great food and local wines
A great lunch, good service
The best steak ever!
