We were staying in Narrabundah and had heard good reports of another restaurant which unfortunately was fully booked. We saw this one and were impressed by the appearance. We had no knowledge of La Cantina but it has the appearance and decor of an above the average establishment - Lighting - table set up etc. The brick arches were most impressive. We hoped the food was as good - it was. We were greeted and seated by an obliging waitress, once it was confirmed they had a spare table. The table was near the kitchen. The kitchen workings were visible and we were impressed by the efficiency of the way it worked without drama. The menu was excellent and obviously specialised in Italian food - quite apart from pasta and pizza. Our entre and main was excellent and we both enjoyed our choices which were explained perfectly and cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. I ordered wine by the glass and our waitress unsure of the wine, called another who knew the list and made a good recommendation from two I had chosen. Service was excellent, friendly and efficient and the specials were announced without reference to a list. The girl also knew the dishes and could explain the ones we questioned to our satisfaction. The service time had a perfect break between courses. We got what we paid for and were more than happy - $120 for two with wine. Next time we are in Canberra - Its on the list.
Right off the bat the most important thing I can say is the food was just amazing. Wonderful fresh exciting food bursting with flavour, a real joy to not only eat but to savour. Enjoyable cozy atmosphere and great service, I can guarantee you will not be disappointed if you choose to dine here. My only cautious advice would be for the kitchen to be more courageous in seasoning some their dishes (carpaccio, polenta), or placing salt on the table. Also try the anchovies, they are un-bloody-believable.
We have been to La Cantina on several occasions, for lunch and dinner as well as getting pizzas takeaway. We feel extremely lucky to have this in our neighbourhood. The pane cotta is the best I have ever had, the aubergine penne and mussel appetiser are both devine! The service exceptional and the ambience of restaurant is perfect. Make this restaurant a must visit for any special occasion or just when you want to treat yourself. Booking a must.
Four of us ate at La Cantina last night. We really enjoyed the food - mains and a dessert each. The chicken with mustard sauce was really good I was told. My steak while very tasty was a little bit more cooked than rare. My only criticisms of the place are that they should make sure the staff are fully aware of what is on the menu and they need baffles strung across the room at ceiling level to break down the high level of noise.
Lovely atmosphere and good service. I had the polenta gnoccho, entreé size, and it was delicious. My dinner companions had Zia and Marguerite pizzas which they enjoyed. The garlic bread was a bit hohum. Very popular spot on a Friday night.
Absolutely amazing! Staff were suitably friendly yet very professional while food was perfectly cooked and served. Although not expensive for what was provided i only wish i could afford to eat there more often!
One great little Italian Restaurant accidentally stumbled across! Absolute perfect meal! As a huge foodie this place is just spot on with its food. Service is a little slow but worth the wait. Will be back.
Really nice food, great service and an excellent fit-out. Not in as great a location as Italian & Sons, but a much friendlier vibe from the staff and the food is just as good.
La Cantina never fails to impress, and every dish is a winner. Always warm and friendly service. Excellent food for lunch and dinner. Bookings are a must.
Fantastic decor very authentic feel, pizza and pasta excellent, recommend the aubergine pasta it was cooked to perfection, definitely worth a try
Excellent local Italian resto. Great duck ravioli, carpaccio and spatchcock alla diavolo. Reasonable wine prices.
The combination of great food, warm atmosphere and superb service just keeps us comming back for more and more...
Great Italian food and atmosphere. Was a bit slow (for no reason) and steak needed a sauce
Very pleasant though a little variable. Still the best Italian restaurant in Canberra.
