Quite impressed After hearing a not great anecdotal review, and mixed reviews on the web, I was hesitant; however our Tuesday evening dinner was great. The restaurant is smallish and elegantly fitted out with dark décor, simple tasteful furnishings, subtle lighting and background music. This laid back element is contrasted with the semi open kitchen and slightly more “boisterous” Italian feel. I have to add that our experience might be different had we been seated at the back of the restaurant, which seemed to be more tightly packed, and enclosed. If you book, ask for a table at the front. I was glad to see the wine and drinks menu comprised a few Australian choices, as Australian wine and produce is ALWAYS my first preference, however if you want to sample imported product (and the name is italian and sons after all) there are plenty by way of wines, drinks and cheeses. Our Carpaccio antipasti and whitebait fritters (a special) were a great entrée, as were my slow cooked beef cheek for main, and the “Tuesday special” pork main. The pasta am less sure about, as no restaurant should charge more than $20 for a rice or pasta based dish. I actually woke up the following morning thinking about how delicious the beef cheeks were… mmmm…. The pannacotta for dessert was beautiful, as were the gelati trio, however the ricotta canoli were less impressive- the rhubarb and mint sauce was more salty than sweet, and a mismatch to the delicate flavours of the canoli. A few other reviewers have commented on the fact that they were treated rudely when giving feedback to someone at the restaurant. Whilst I experienced nothing of the sort, as a patron, I think we need to be SOOOOO careful when providing feedback to the owner of a business. Whilst feedback is a good thing, the owner has put a huge amount of effort, time, money and emotion into their business; integrity and good manners dictate to tread very carefully!
Second visit to this great new eatery in Braddon was a good as the first a couple of weeks earlier for lunch. This time it was eight of us for dinner. A great night out. Book ahead. This is a popular place with good reason. From the garlic foccacia to the savoury crespelli (pancakes) sizzling in the butter they were cooked in. The pizzas are special and the pasta superb, not to mention the risotto. This is a place to keep going back to. New specials going up all the time with some of them making it to the menu depending on how you respond. The very drinkable Ravensworth Sangiovese was most appreciated. $500 including drinks wine and couple of courses each with coffee for eight was considered a great nights dining. Always enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere We have Never ever been disappointed Everyone is so experienced you can ask recommendations for wine or etc. and never be disappointed. We have been going for almost 6 years and always been happy with the service and true taste of Italian food.
Cramped location with too many tables crammed in to a very uncomfortable boxy room. Good food although OTT pricing and unjustifiably stingy portion size take away from it greatly, e.g. $19 for three barely one-inch scallops. After three courses we left feeling hungry and ripped off.
Food was average for its price. Could have made the same pasta at home. The staff were rushing us to order as soon as we sat down and rushing us to get out as quick as possible. We were in the middle of dessert and were told to get up and get out. Pretty disappointed.
unfortunately the service we had on saturday night was worse than my local takeaway. The food luckily was amazing, unfortunately we had to eat at separate times as our order was totally stuffed up. To be the best, you have to do a lot better Italian and sons.
The best thing about this restaurant is the service. The staff are so welcoming and attentive; this despite having to serve a full house. The food was nice, but not amazing as you might expect from the price. Still, I had a great experience. Worth a try.
We think this is our new favourite restaurant. The staff are all amazing - so helpful and attentive. The food was great and we loved the atmosphere. It made for a great date night - thank you so much.
Really delicious dessert!!! Service was fast and food delicious. Totally recommend the flourless chocolate torte... Bit loud and menus were hard to read (complicated language and cursive font).
Every week i find myself craving the Diavolo pizza and Eggplant parmigana. The food is on the expensive side, but what you get is great quality, which is very rare in Canberra!
Some good ambiance for a restaurant. Pastas was decent but still not comparable to that in Melbourne. Service was great as well. Good Italian place for Canberra standards.
The cheese ravioli with cherry tomato was beautiful, while the squid ink linguine was way too salty :| Desserts were great, especially the tiramisu and the cherries.
Awesome food and fantastic service. Very cosy atmosphere inside. The beef was incredibly tender and succulent and the chocolate torte was amazing.
Expensive and excellent food. Great customer service. Group of 8 people seated in the wine bar area - great spot with access to full menu.
Lovely food we enjoyed this tonight despite one of our party being unwell. ..one criticism though. .the venue was far too hot for us.
Really expensive, dim lighting and smallish servings per the cliche, but amazing Italian food. A nice place for a romantic dinner.
service is great and food even better. a little spendy and you have to pre book but overall a great dining experience
Very expensive, but yummy Italian food in a setting appropriate to the cuisine. Will definitely be back.
Food, wine and service were excellent. We found the restaurant by sheer good luck and very glad we did
Great food. Great atmosphere. Great staff. Slightly expensive, but good for a treat night out.
Food was delicious, as was the wine we ordered. Staff were attentive and helpful. Recommend.
Great service and delicious food with so many great choices, be sure to make a reservation
Food was melt in your mouth good and great selection of beers and vino. Reasonably priced
Great food. Good service. A bit on the slow side but lovely atmosphere. $$$$ expensive
The food was very good. Service was great. The house Shiraz is not worth the savings!
great service, beautiful wine and exceptional food. recommend for a special night out
Amazing little place. Taste of Italy can get busy, book ahead or eat at the bar.
Loved this place. Others have said they had patchy service when they went.
I enjoyed lunch here. The food was tasty and the service excellent.
Consistently good food. Love the menu. Best Italian in Canberra.
Unbelievably rude people, incapable of making a meal correctly.
Best Italian in Canberra, amazing wine and food. Beautiful
Shocking service, terrible people, terrible restaurant
Rude wait staff, rushed us as soon as we sat down
Fantastic Food but a bit pricey for the area.
9/10, book ahead or you will be missing out.
