Since the move to a fully-fledged restaurant in Curtin, I must say - disappointed :( This is especially sad since I loved their outdoour setup in Acton and was so excited to see their new restaurant. Why disappointed? The restaurant was disorganised, with people not being served for a very long time, the waitresses not knowing what to do, and the food being below par. I sent back my main because it was just chilli and rice and had no flavour at all. The worst part was, there was no apology, and no offer to provide an alternative. It may be early days yet for this baby restaurant and I hope they turn things around quickly (I know they can cook), but I felt sad that the chaos and disorganisation of the restaurant has translated into poor food. I have not ever run a restaurant, but as a customer, I know when it is not being run well - and last night felt manic from the moment I walked in. I would suggest a much more focussed menu with less items but more care for each. If they stick to their snacks theme and build on what made them successful, I think they would go a long way. I hope to come back in 6 months when they have their act together! P.S I thank the owner below for his response to my rather blunt review and look forward to seeing Daana prosper in all her glory! I have added 2 stars for the belated apology and enthusiasm.
I dont know where to start about them. YES they started off on the righ foot with authentic food and excellent customer service. YES that is paaaaaaassssstttt.... fast forward 2 years they just beacame like any other indian restaurent meaning ( worst food mostly not cooked properly or half cooked , worst customer service yuckkkkkk...). To summarize if you are happy about their service and food i am not discouraging you. but please please do NOT judge indian food by what you eat there END of REVIEW. plz plz what you eat over there is not proper INDIAN FOOD. it is Shhhhhiiiiiiiiitttttttttt..... by any standards. This is coming a frustrated perosn who has been a victim of all the positive reviews by paid services. DONT EAT THERE
It was our special day and we were looking for a special place where we dine and spend a nice time and we were definitely not disappointed. If someone wants to try the real South Indian cuisine then "Danna" should be that place. Although the restaurant was busy , we got a very friendly and cordial reception from the floor staffs. Interior decor reflected owners good taste and fondness to their heritage. Food was served on time and freshly cooked and terribly delicious. It was neither too hot nor too mild , more then enough to satisfy our taste bud . Serving was generous and definitely value for money. We will definitely go back to try other items and will recommend to others.
Best authentic South Indian food that I have ever had outside India! My family felt that we were all having a lunch in our house in India. The quality of the food was absolutely great - with masala dosa and veg biriyani and veg thali - all of them were delicious. And the owner and chef Mr. Sanjay ensured he added the South Indian flavour of the hospitality to the great food that he and his wife served. I will recommend this to anyone that wants to eat Indian food in Australia with the family. The ambience is great and they serve wine as well. Thank you Mr and Mrs Sanjay for the fantastic lunch experience. We will come back to Canberra to eat in Daana again!!!
Daana is one of the best Indian food venues in Canberra! The staff, the food, the location, everything is just perfect. A few of my friends and I have made it a weekend routine to have lunch here and we are always amazed by the quality and flavour of the food as well as the humble and excellent staff that serves there. It is always nice to have a chat with Sanjay and he makes you feel valued as a customer when he can remember your name ever since the first meeting. The menu has something special every week and it will never disappoint. The scintillating flavours will always make you come back for more! Amazing experience, every single time!
Went recently after work without knowing about the restaurant and was pleasantly surprised. The food was great and the service was quick. Only downside was the waitstaff were too concentrated at the indoor tables and my group felt a little isolated outside!
We had biryani (Andhra Biryani) at Daana today.Very disappointed. Please stop fooling people. This is no where close to authentic andhra biryani And that too for $28.waste of money. Please Change the recipe or stop selling masala rice as Authentic Biryani.
Awesome food. Had mixed reviews from others, but super impressed with the offerings. The place clearly wants to be vegetarian (the menu lists things as vegetarian and non-vegetarian) but the meat dishes we had were good to.
Amazing South Indian cuisine. My kids enjoyed the baby idlis (they were cute). Would highly recommend. Thanks Sanjay for your hospitality totally floored by the food and exceptional customer service
Loved the authentic South Indian Dosa and Idly in Canberra. Anyone who is looking for a tasty Indian food, I would definitely recommend this one. Service is too good as well.
Amazing food and very friendly staff. I would say the taste of South Indian dishes is as authentic as it can get. Will pay for their dosa, idli and uttapam in India too.
What a great little treasure hidden away from the crowds! Explosively exciting for the taste buds. Service exceptional. Such a comfortable place to enjoy great food.
An interesting menu that stays true to Southern Indian cuisine and excellent food. The staff were remarkably friendly and skilled. I definitely recommend the Thalis!
Really authentic flavours and Indian food done really well! Really recommend their dosas. The hardworking couple are a treat to deal with wish them all the best!
Best Indian food I have ever experienced. Lovely staff who are passionate about making good food! Prices of meals are very reasonable too. Highly recommended.
Best place to eat Indian snacks like Vada Paav and Pao Bhaaji in Canberra... Reasonably priced and great quality! Very friendly staff and service at its best!
And finally I found an authentic Indian restaurant, which serves you real Indian food. This guys are passionate about what they are doing.
Took me back to memories of my hometown with their coastal kori rotti and fish curry. Absolutely love this place!
Very friendly Street food, the menu is veggie friendly and they clearly care about their food and their customers
Good place to eat new menu is for those who want to eat something like " Modern Indian Australian".....
Madhusudhan Vasudeva Rao
Decent food, nice ambient place. Starters were bit oily, some nice selection of vegetarian food.
Authentic and delicious South Indian food, with a great atmosphere and a wonderful host!
