Food good. Service terrible. I really want to like this place. I really do. It is the sort of cafe that is so rare on the southside but common in the inner north of Canberra. But the service has gone so far downhill that I can no longer keep going back. Which is a pity because it is my local cafe. If it was just one incident I could excuse that but it has become the norm. Yesterday’s example: my wife and I entered and sat down. It wasn’t particularly crowded. I proceeded to tell my wife how I thought the standard of the service had dropped dramatically from when the place opened. She asked if I wanted to go somewhere else. I said no, it should be fine. My mistake. We were ignored. Eventually my wife got up and got the menus. Then we waited some more. There were 5 staff behind the counter. So then she went and got one of the staff to come and take our order. After a while our coffees arrived. Without the milk I ordered. I got up and requested that. After 25 minutes our food (a croissant and fruit toast) still hadn’t arrived. Our coffees were cold. I’d had enough so we got up to pay for our coffees and told them to forget about the food. The guy behind the counter had the nerve to have a go at ME! I still haven’t worked out what for. The female at the register was apologetic. When Common Grounds first opened and I was going there regularly there was a young female staff member who really set the standard for service. As soon as you sat down she would bring menus and water and ask if you wanted to start with anything. She would return and take your order. She would check again later if there was anything else you needed. Always smiling and friendly. There is no one like that there now. I hope it picks up. I’ll go back in six months or so to check.
Great coffee, but terrible service this morning. After waiting 15 minutes for takeaway coffee and seeing at least 5 groups of people served who placed an order after me, was rudely told by the barista that they were busy, they never change the service order and I would have to wait another 6 minutes followed by a good dose of head shaking because the customer is an idiot! Ended up being close to 25 minutes for a coffee. I will be taking my daily custom back to Brew Bar.
Started visiting for coffee soon after it opened, now have coffee 3 x week. Breakfast is a monthly treat, as is lunch. Considering the size of kitchen, Richard (chef) is a genius. Food never disapoints & coffee best around. Sure, inside can be noisy: packed houses often are, but outside on the patio is quieter & warmed by heaters or sunshine. Great attentive staff. Love Common Grounds.
A popular cafe with good food and coffee and easy parking. Paying at the end took way too long and people coming into the cafe had to squeeze past behind us. They need to rethink customer processing and customer traffic management. It was noticeably painful and inconvenient when the food and coffee and great.
The food and coffee is quality. They could stand to put on an extra person on weekends as the service drops and becomes forgetful when the place is full (which is all of the tine due to the great menu) but the staff are super friendly and do what they can to make up for the busy period service.
Very busy little place. Can be a little cold if outside. Dogs are welcome; however could not see any water bowl out the front. Tables are a generous size. Coffee is good; but if the weather is cool you might want to ask for a take away cup to keep the heat in. Hidden gem!
Simply excellent Campos coffee is a great start to this little treasure of a cafe tucked away in an otherwise unremarkable suburban shopping centre. Superb burgers and sandwiches, gorgeous cakes and pastries make for a local gem.
Absolutely fantastic little café. Beautiful brunches that are served quickly, cute outdoor courtyard seating & is dog friendly. Only downside is the coffee is jet fuel strong & very very bitter.
Great food and coffee, I always bring visitors here, but it can get a little squishy and loud inside as it is popular. Dog friendly and lovely on the back patio in the warmer months.
Great and fast service, DELICIOUS food! We had the Buddha Bowls, and hot cascana (hot drink from the coffee bean husk). Everything was so full of flavour, really enjoyed our visit
Busy little place in the suburbs. Nice selection of food. The Buddha Bowl was a hit with my Vegan daughter. Service always quite friendly. Coffees can be a bit inconsistent.
Excellent local coffee shop which has become so busy you may need to wait outside for a while before a table becomes available. A boon for the tiny shopping strip in Gowrie.
Good wheel chair access. Reasonable prices ($8.9 for eggs on toast). The poached eggs were perfectly cooked. Campos coffee was yum made on a La Marzocco.
Great breakfast choices and nice coffee. Often busy so can be hard at times, particularly on the weekends to get a seat straight away.
Great coffee! Lovely service cool atmosphere. Great courtyard. Almond milk flat white - winning! Definitely recommend and come back.
Great food and service and fantastic coffee. This place hidden in Gowrie is definitely worth a visit. You will not be disappointed.
Not too shabby. Could easily get a 5 star rating from me if the hours wernt so whack and maybe some more sweets like cronuts ect..
You might not expect to find good coffee in Gowrie but Common Grounds delivers! Great cafe. Coffee is a little pricey though!
Good coffee, yummy gf brownies, friendly staff, and has a good little playground close by for the kids to have a run around!
Been going since they opened, we love the breakie and lunch menus, lovely staff members and great food! Highly recommend!
Fantastic food, a little busy at times so you really need to pick your place. But it is always worth the wait
Enjoyable coffee to complement the food. The atmosphere is very comfortable and the staff very helpful
NIce place, a little tight on the space when you bring the kids along. But always nice coffee.
The coffee is very good and the food is even better... Very few tables though.
