We came here for our anniversary dinner and were thoroughly disappointed. The website looks beautiful and the dishes on the surface sounded lovely. The mains were presented in a less than appetising style. I ordered the wagyu steak which came in a small cast iron pot surrounded in grey sauce. A grey steak in a matching sauce. I originally thought they had brought the wrong order over because I had not ordered an onion soup. Unfortunately I found that that was my steak. My side of carrots was served cold, and even after being taken back for reheating it was not more than room temperature. My fiancé ordered a lamb based pasta dish that also looked like a brown soup drowning some large sheets of pasta. We understand that theyre looking for that rustic, earthy presentation but even a farmhouse would at least sprinkle some fresh herbs on it for some colour. Dessert was lovely, I ordered a chocolate dessert (made to order) that was well presented and delicious, the in house made marshmallow was a lovely touch. My fiancé ordered a raspberry sorbet which was fresh and lovely. It was a cheaper meal than expected but too expensive for the quality of the food. And to top it off my fiancé apparently got food poisoning so he was stuck in the bathroom the rest of the night, which carried on to the next morning. Service was quick though.
We found this hidden gem in Braddon, we were trying to find a place for breakfast and i have to say best choice!!! We had the best Spanish omelette ever, so We decided to come back for Dinner and try a few more dishes. I have to say that it was one of the best dinner i had in a while. My angus fillet was best quality and cooked to perfection and i matched with wonderful Tempranillo they have by the glass and my partner had their famous suckling pig and he was so happy too with his choice. The entrees were so delicious , we had some pork belly, chorizo and croquetas and Jamon iberico it was so bloody yummy too. Service was impecable, everyone was very friendly, profesional and not invasive, we will come back for sure when we are back in Canberra. Thanks Black Fire for doing things with passion :)
Aperitif with prosciutto San Daniele and then superb meat, side dish of baked potatoes and mushrooms, all accompanied by fine wine. It was so long since I ate so well. Great food and friendly staff! Super recommended!
We got the tasting menu for $55 a person. The four tapas dishes we received were delicious, especially the artichoke one. The suckling lamb and suckling pig were juicy and delicious, with fantastically matched sauces and sides. Our aerated cheesecake for dessert came with the best caramel sauce ever made and was a perfect way to end the meal. Highly recommend for a special occasion - fancy food without the tiny portion sizes or weird ingredients.
A fantastic experience for any meal. Always something different than what youd expect, especially for breakfast where "bacon and eggs" is the last thing youd want to try. Blackfire is basically my "local" - Ive given up on the other restaurants in Braddon. Lunches are an experience youll remember for ever and the suckling pig or lamb are both to die for. And yes, the coffee is brilliant - easily passes the "espresso test".
The food here tastes amazing, serving some of the most delicious meals I have ever had. The portion sizes are large and I was completely satisfied by the selection of tapas entrees and slow cooked meat mains. The service is excellent, very professional but not overbearing. The best part was the caramel sauce served with the cheesecake desert. The place is worth visiting for that sauce alone.
So Ive noticed that if your review is bad for this restaurant. They attack your opinion. I wouldnt eat there again. Theyre steak is very gristly. Staff rude. Apparently its your fault if you dont like what they serve up! The rest of the food is ordinary for the price! They might need to look at how many excellent restaurants there are in a Canberra as thus may be their downfall.
Superb food. Excellent service. The degustation menu was $55 per person for 4-5 entree dishes, as well as absolutely delicious suckling pork and slow cooked lamb with roast potatoes and (specially requested) cooked green vegetables which in our opinion was amazing value. The $20 degustation dessert plate for two was also terrific value and quality. An amazing experience.
Literally the best meal we have ever eaten. The Chefs Taste Menu is amazing, flavours to die for. The suckling pig & suckling lamb were tender, juicy & flavoursome. The affogato & liqueur was the perfect way to finish the meal. The staff were attentive but not in your face. Definitely worth the visit when you are in Canberra.
Made a booking. Upon arrival had horrible customer service with the manager being extremely rude. Did not end up dinning there due to the attitude we received from the manager, and the fact that they tried to give us a table that wasnt going to fit everyone (we were clear on numbers when booking).
I had a very pleasant experience at this restaurant that I would personally rating it one of the best canberra venue. The food is very good , I would recommend the chef menu at $55 which includes a great variety of dishes, the service is outstanding . I would be back in my next visit in act
Wonderfully quiet with an aroma that takes you places all around the world. A great way to re visit south America and the glorious food it delivers. Great service to top it off and reasonably priced.. for me.. i just got a payrise.. so.. yeah.. stoked about that.
Amazing food. Must try the waygu beef if you are around . The server dont know how to hide his unhappiness.. maybe it was late and he wishs to go home ?? Not too sure. But non the less, food is amazing. Do try this place out if you are in the hood.
Fantastic food with a good wine selection and bar. The staff were friendly and helpful and the environment is warm and cosy. Although it comes under Braddon, its still only a ten minute walk from Alinga Street in the City Centre.
Service was good but for $28 the raviolli main dish was like an entry. Nice food but not filling for the price. Had to get some more food down the road. Pasta should be filling for that price. 6 raviolli in a bowl doesnt cut it.
The food was fantastic, and the service was just as exceptional. They are warm, helpful, and provide an wonderful experience. The cozy and relaxed atmosphere was so welcoming, I found it hard to leave the place.
The food was amazing but was overshadowed by the amazing service. Very attentive, polite and always making sure we were taken care of. This is a venue I would recommend to everyone (Except vegetarians!)
Loved it, food sensational and service very professional , we had the chef menu a very good selection of entrees , cured meat and the succulent suckling pig, I would recommend it to anybody
I was disappointed by my recent visit at Black Fire, which is a shame because I had heard good things. The waitress was rude and the veal stake tasted off. Wont be recommending to anyone.
As I was walking to the restaurant the smell of the grill tantalised my senses, perfect on a cold winters night. Suckling pig, sofrito and a spanish white. Whats not to love? Delicious.
