There is a man at the sweets counter who needs to go to the back of the shop permanently or leave the business. His lack of courtesy gave me and my friend nausea. He is the typical grumpy old man who knows no manners and obviously does not have an idea about the Australian expectation of customer service. If this is the way he learnt to service customers in his country of origin, he needs to know that this is not the place where he comes from. He lives in Australia, he is getting business from Australians and therefore he needs to change his manner and learn some customer service techniques. A friend and I went to have lunch and we found out that the sweets he sold us tasted like they were old. Yet, when he was advised that this was the case, my friend was totally dismisssed. This man told her that no one had complaint, probably a miscarriage of the truth, considering his general attitude to customers. Corrupted service, SHAME!!!!
These people are polite, and humerous and run a family business and they will treat you like family too. I have been there many times over many years of course there have been better times and not so good times but overall fantastic. If you are looking for an eating establishment with starched table clothes and table service do not go here. Its the real thing. Tolerate the occassional lapse in service you will be well rewarded. Great food, warm loving people and the price is unbelievable. Make sure you place your order at the counter, and go up to get your meal when your number is called. You will not be disappointed. As for purchasing goods to take home eg curry powders, beans etc never been disappointed yet.
****AVOID at ALL COST****People here lack customer service to the core. Most products are not marked with a price tag and the price is decided by the owner at the counter. Products are either expired or overly priced when compared to other indian shops in Canberra. Food in their restuarant was stale. Apparently this place is known as the worst indian restuarant in whole of ACT. There is another indian shop in oatley ct, belconnen and a few new ones in Gunghalin marketplace.
This Indian store is part of our lives from day one since we are in Canberra. Free delivery was offered to us when we did not even have a car. You get every Indian item you wish for here and the people are so friendly. The store had continued to grow over time now selling clothes and all forms of Indian chat items.

Poor cleanliness. Tables and floor had leftover food and the tables were stinking. When I asked the man on the counter to clean, he came and sprayed tables so carelessly that the liquid was spraying over me. Food quality is average. Not going to try the restaurant again.
Rather than star there should have been dislike button or something else to rate so people stop going there . No word to discribe how bad it was . Service and cleaning rate -100 star . No toilet to use and they run a family restaurant. Everything was just hopeless.
Good Indian grocer with a fantastic understated cafe/restaurant. Good selection of hard to find North Indian sweets such as Jalebi, Burfi, and Ladu. Good place to find your non homogenised Indian cusine. Try the Puri and Chole Bature. My kids love this place.
One of the better grocery stores if you are looking for stuff from the Indian subcontinent. It also has a small takeaway counter selling Indian Street food as well as curries, naan and rice. The chole bhatura here is the best in Canberra.
sometimes things on the shelves are expired... :( and they are costly as well. they are taking the advantage of having few shops in canberra whereas the similar things in Sydney cost far less.. they should reduce their prices.
food tastes good, but the groceries are of poor quality, we bought sona masuri rice last week and when we opened the bag we found some warms in that. rice is of very poor quality, and price is too high.
I also have faced similar situations. The customer service is too bad. Once during having lunch i asked for an extra tissue, the guy in the counter looked at me like I have asked for 75% discount.
Appalling service at the food counter. Prices not marked on the aisle which causes inconvenience as you need to go back and forth asking the owner who are comfortably standing behind the counter.
I bought Chole Bhature today.. i found bug in it. very bad service.. they didnt ask me to replace or refund.. ... owner told me we left aachar(Pickle) open that is y it happen..

Mostly north Indian stuff, Limited south indian stuff, however the food served is really good. Food is better than many indian glorified restaurants in Canberra.esp Chole Bhature
bad food, worst service... Rude man sitting behind the counter and selling expired food and snacks... will not recommend to anyone
The dining area is always super messy and unclean, the service is usually pretty rude, but the food is totally worth it.
Great for a hot lunch - the Thali plates are great, as well as the Chole Bhature and butter chicken
If you want good south food at reasonable prices then good place. Also a supermarket for spices
Simple and cafeteria-like but their food is amazing! Some of the best Indian food in Canberra!
Quality of food: Brilliant. Dining area: worse than Maccas. Kind of cool, kind of not.
Waited 45 minutes to get sub par overly expensive food. Poor service, Not impressed.
Good food, but really bad service from some of the male staff... also not very clean
Its a Indian grossery store but alone with it has a small dine-in which is amazing
Almost all of Indian stuff available in a good value. Good food as well.
One stop shop for buying Indian stuff and getting a quick snack or meal.
Good food but all many groceries are very normally past expiry date
